TJA: There is genocide in Rojava 2026-01-22 11:23:02   Büşra Turan   WAN- In response to the attacks on Rojava, Felek Erdem of the TJA said they would not remain silent about the ongoing genocide and urged international human rights organizations and the public to visit the region.    On January 6, attacks were launched in the Şêxmeqsûd and Eşrefiyê neighborhoods of Aleppo by HTS gangs with the support of Turkey. The attacks spread to many areas of North and East Syria. Many people were killed or injured in the attacks. Furthermore, the fate of the many civilians who were forcibly displaced remains unknown. In response to these attacks, Kurds around the world have risen up in resistance. Kurds and their allies in many countries, particularly in Rojava, are not abandoning areas under attack, but rather, are intensifying their resistance.   Felek Erdem, an activist with the Tevgera Jinên Azad (TJA), commented on HTS's attacks against civilians and women.   'Torture must be stopped'   Felek Erdem stated that they are no strangers to what is being done and said, "We know very well how these gangs kill. We know this from DAISH's practices during the 2013-2015 period. What we see today in Rojava are uniformed DAISH members, and no one can claim otherwise. The images that have emerged have caused outrage among all of us. Throwing a female fighter off a roof is one of the clearest examples of DAISH's mentality. The images of children and funerals published are also a cause for serious outrage. In such a war environment, with these images, it is becoming increasingly difficult to talk about peace or say that we will 'build peace.' We often say that women and mothers want and support peace the most. They suffer the most pain. Today, women and children in Rojava are experiencing this pain. The scale of the losses, abductions, and torture that have occurred has now reached a point where the international community must intervene.    ‘The international community must go to Rojava’   Regarding the recent events, Felek Erdem addressed the international community and institutions, saying, “A very serious crime against humanity is taking place. We know broadcasts have been cut off and attempts are being made to prevent images of torture from spreading. Therefore, an independent delegation must urgently go to the region to investigate and report on the torture and DAISH mentality taking place there. At a time when Rojava's integration, democratic society, and peace are being discussed and debated, it is unacceptable to disregard the March 10 agreement. The gangs' attacks will not be limited to Rojava. They will affect the entire Middle East. DAISH is a scourge that threatens not only Rojava but also all four parts of Kurdistan and all peoples of the Middle East. Today it is Rojava; tomorrow it will be somewhere else. Unless these gangs are stopped, they will continue to shed blood and commit massacres."   'Genocide is being committed'   Felek Erdem made the following appeal to international institutions regarding the attacks in Rojava: “They must stop burying their heads in the sand, observe the war and torture on the ground, and put a stop to it. Genocide is being carried out. We must stand against this. DAIS is not finished; it continues. Today, it is hidden in Syria; tomorrow, it will emerge elsewhere. Therefore, we must all stand together against this war and refuse to accept it."   Felek Erdem added that they would not accept the genocide and war and would intensify their struggle against them.
