HTS attacks Kobanê and Eqtan Prison 2026-01-22 19:39:33   NEWS CENTRE - QSD announced that HTS attacked southern Kobanê and Eqtan Prison. The statement emphasised that this violated the ceasefire agreement and stressed that Damascus was responsible for the ongoing violations.   The Syrian Democratic Forces (QSD) Media Centre issued a statement regarding attacks carried out by groups affiliated with HTS on Kobanê and the Eqtan Prison in Raqqa, despite the ceasefire agreement. The statement noted that, simultaneously with the bombing of the Eqtan Prison in Raqqa where ISIS members are held, the groups also targeted the area around the city of Sirin, while heavy weapons and artillery fire were used to attack the village of Khrouss in the south of Kobanê.    The statement said that the entire southern and southwestern countryside of Kobanê was subjected to intense artillery fire and that the bombardment was continuing at the time of writing. The statement also said that videos documenting the artillery fire on the south of Kobanê, published by accounts affiliated with the groups carrying out the attacks, had been shared with the public.    The ceasefire was violated 22 times   The statement emphasised that this was the second consecutive day of ceasefire violations, noting that the previous day, the aforementioned groups had carried out a total of 22 ceasefire violations, including attacks on Kobanê, Hesekê and Eqtan Prison. In addition to the military attacks, the statement drew attention to the Damascus regime's continued policy of collective punishment, noting that electricity and water had been cut off in Kobanê, fuel shipments had been blocked, and that this was directly affecting the population in the harsh winter conditions.    The statement held Damascus fully responsible for the ongoing violations and stressed that targeting sensitive areas such as residential areas and prisons holding DAISH members posed a serious threat to security and stability. The statement also called on the states guaranteeing the ceasefire to take immediate and effective steps to stop the violations and ensure full compliance with the ceasefire agreement.
